A Reggio Emilia-Inspired Preschool
At WCA, children are viewed as curious and capable participants in their own learning. Teachers introduce weekly themes and invite students to investigate a wide range of subjects through stories, conversation, materials, and projects.
The curriculum considers the many dimensions of early childhood development: cognitive skills, language, physical growth, social-emotional awareness, self-help skills, literacy, and understanding the world. Activities are designed to engage the whole child, not simply prepare for the next test or grade level.
Our preschool emphasizes both academic readiness and character, encouraging respect, compassion, cooperation, and confidence as children learn to work and play together.
Early Literacy, Math, Science and the Creative Arts
Preschool children explore letters, sounds, shapes, numbers, colors, and patterns through daily activities and playful practice. Stories, discussions, resource centers, and hands-on projects help build early literacy and math readiness while also introducing topics in science, social studies, and nature.
Science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM) appear in age-appropriate experiences such as building, sorting, observing, experimenting, and creating. Mixed-media art, dramatic play, and classroom projects encourage students to express ideas in different ways.
Music is another hallmark of the WCA experience. Owner and Director Janine Klaassen Welsh leads Music and Movement activities that may include singing, dancing, fingerplays, instrument exploration, and movement. These experiences help make the school day creative, joyful, and engaging.
Indoor and Outdoor Classrooms
Learning at Windmill Creek Academy is not confined to a desk. Classroom resource centers support puzzles, blocks, manipulatives, dramatic play, art, games, and collaborative projects. The school's library of more than 1,500 children's books gives teachers and students a rich collection for story time and themed learning.
Outdoor spaces offer equally important experiences. WCA has age-specific, shaded playground areas, along with the Creation Station for sensory and water play, art, and building explorations. The Growing Garden provides opportunities to discover plants, seasons, and the natural world.

Growing Toward Kindergarten
As preschoolers develop language, problem-solving, independence, and relationships, they also begin preparing for the next stage of education. WCA's VPK Program in Naples continues that progression with a focus on school readiness for four-year-olds.
